Elina Svitolina, the top-ranked Ukrainian tennis player, successfully advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal, Canada. In the fourth round of the competition, she defeated American Amanda Anisimova, the 2025 Wimbledon finalist, with a score of 6-4, 6-1. The match lasted 1 hour and 27 minutes, reports Baltimore Chronicle.

The start of the match was not easy, as both players exchanged breaks. However, by the score of 5-4, Svitolina had the opportunity to close out the first set. At this moment, she converted her second set point and won the first set 6-4. The second set, while shorter by two games, lasted 3 minutes longer. During a tough game at 1-1, Svitolina held on for over 10 minutes, eventually securing the game on her eighth game point after saving three break points from Anisimova. Svitolina then broke Anisimova’s serve, held her own serve despite a double break point, and closed out the match 6-1.

Svitolina hit 4 aces, made 3 double faults, and secured 4 breaks during the match. Anisimova recorded 4 aces, 4 serve errors, and 1 break from 9 opportunities. In the next round, Svitolina will play against Naomi Osaka (Japan).

This was Svitolina’s fourth appearance in the quarterfinals of a WTA 1000 tournament this season. In Montreal, she made it to the quarterfinals after defeating Kamilla Rakhimova and Anna Kalinskaya earlier in the tournament. Another Ukrainian, Marta Kostyuk, also reached the quarterfinals after her comeback win over McCartney Kessler (USA).
