At the age of 17, Arturo Gatti Jr., the son of former world boxing champion Arturo Gatti, has tragically passed away, reports Baltimore Chronicle.

Following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Arturo Gatti Jr. had been training as a boxer and was preparing for his first major exhibition fight. Earlier this year, he was scheduled to appear on the undercard of Mexican champion Juan Estrada’s bout. However, days before the event, his name mysteriously disappeared from the list of participants without any explanation.

The cause of the young athlete’s death has not yet been revealed. Family members and close associates have refrained from commenting, and the circumstances surrounding his passing remain unclear.

His father, the famed Canadian-born boxer Arturo Gatti, died in 2009 under suspicious circumstances in Brazil. Authorities confirmed that his death was violent. At the time, Gatti Sr. was 37 years old, while his son was only one year old.
