Former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore has been arrested on charges of home invasion, stalking in a domestic relationship, and breaking and entering in a domestic relationship, prosecutors reported, Baltimore Chronicle. Moore, 39, was taken into custody Wednesday following allegations involving a former intimate partner.
Authorities in Pittsfield Township, near Ann Arbor, Michigan, said they received a report from a woman claiming that Moore had been stalking her for several months and had attacked her earlier that day. According to the prosecution, after the couple ended their relationship on Monday, Moore repeatedly contacted the victim by phone and text messages, which she ignored. On Wednesday, Moore reportedly went to her residence, removed scissors and butter knives from the kitchen, and made threatening statements toward her. Prosecutors described his actions as “threatening, intimidating, and terrifying.”
Moore appeared virtually in court on Friday, wearing white jail attire. His bond was set at $25,000, and he was released after posting bail. Court orders require Moore to wear a GPS monitor, avoid contact with the alleged victim, refrain from alcohol or drug use, and not possess weapons. He is scheduled to return to court on January 22, 2026.
The home invasion charge carries felony penalties, while the stalking and breaking-and-entering counts are misdemeanors. Moore’s defense attorneys stated in court that he has no prior criminal record and does not pose a danger to the public or the complainant.
The University of Michigan terminated Moore with cause on Wednesday, citing credible evidence of an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. University President Domenico Grasso urged members of the campus community to report any relevant information regarding Moore’s conduct, emphasizing that such behavior is intolerable at the institution.
Moore, who took over as head coach from Jim Harbaugh two seasons ago, compiled an 18-8 record with the Wolverines, including a 9-3 mark in the current season. The team is set to face the Texas Longhorns in the Citrus Bowl, now led by interim head coach Biff Poggi.
