The US and Ukraine could sign a minerals deal in the coming hours that was supposed to be concluded last week.
RBC-Ukraine reports this with reference to Reuters.
According to the publication's sources, US President Donald Trump told his advisers that he wants to announce the deal in his speech to Congress, which will take place on the evening of March 4 (at 04:00 on March 5, Kyiv time).
Reuters' interlocutors emphasized that the agreement between Ukraine and the United States has not yet been signed and the situation could still change.
Trump and Zelensky's Quarrel
Recall that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was on a visit to the United States on Friday, February 28. He visited the White House, where he met with US President Donald Trump. The official signing ceremony of the agreement on mineral resources between Ukraine and the United States was to take place there.
As the two leaders spoke to reporters in the Oval Office, a spat broke out between them, with Trump accusing Zelensky of “playing games with World War III.”
Against this backdrop, the meeting between Zelensky and Trump ended early. The Ukrainian president left the White House, and the agreement was not signed.
Deal between Ukraine and the USA
It is worth noting that the framework agreement between Ukraine and the United States provides for the creation of an investment fund that will be under the joint management of the two countries.
According to the document, Ukraine will have to contribute 50% of its profits from the sale of minerals to the fund.
Director of the White House National Economic Council Kevin Gassett said that the United States plans to receive about $20 billion in profit from such a deal.
