US President Donald Trump's speech at a joint session of Congress, which began in the early morning of March 5 (Kyiv time), lasted almost two hours. The issue of the Russian-Ukrainian war was raised only at the end of the speech.

Trump's main statements during his speech to Congress are collected in the RBC-Ukraine material.

About Ukraine and possible peace with Russia

It should be noted that Trump mentioned Ukraine very briefly in his speech, in particular , he did not comment at all on the suspension of American aid to Ukraine . Also, the US President did not give any details regarding his “peace plan” for Ukraine.

Here are a number of theses voiced by the US President regarding the war between Russia and Ukraine and possible peace negotiations.

  • “I received an important letter today from (Ukrainian) President (Volodymyr) Zelensky that Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table to bring about lasting peace. I appreciate him sending this letter,” Trump said.
  • The American leader also said in Congress that “we have had serious conversations with the Russians, we have received serious signals that they are ready for peace… isn't that wonderful?”
  • Trump stressed that if “you want to end the war, you have to talk to both sides.”
  • The American president said that the United States had sent “hundreds of billions of dollars” to support Ukraine's defense. And he asked congressmen: “Do you want this to continue for another five years?”…
  • Trump also said again that “millions” of Russians and Ukrainians have already died in the war.

Trump names his achievements in Congress

Trump began his speech to Congress by listing his accomplishments as president of the United States in the roughly month and a half since his inauguration on January 20. In particular, he spoke about:

  • renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the American Gulf,
  • the introduction of English as an official language in the United States,
  • banning remote work for employees,
  • deregulation,
  • affirmation of two genders – male and female,
  • He credited the sharp reduction in illegal border crossings as a “victory”.

At the same time, Republicans interrupted Trump's speech with applause every minute, while representatives of the Democratic Party held signs saying “Lies.”

During his speech, the US President also announced the capture of one of the terrorists who carried out the Abbey Gate bombing in Afghanistan, which killed 13 US service members.

Trump's plans announced

  • Trump said the United States would soon regain control of the Panama Canal and that his administration had already begun working on it.
  • In an address to the people of Greenland, he declared, “We support your right to determine your own future, and if you choose, we will accept you into the United States.
  • According to the US President, the country will increase tariffs on imported goods, and China, India and the EU should be prepared for retaliatory duties from the US. He added that the new duties will come into force on April 2.
  • Trump also said that he signed an executive order introducing the death penalty for killing police officers and asked Congress to approve it by separate law.
  • He said he was planning “historic action later this week to dramatically increase production of critical minerals and rare earth elements here in the United States.”
  • Trump said he was “fighting every day” to lower prices for consumers despite the start of a trade war, and vowed to impose tariffs on other countries the same as those imposed on the United States.
  • The US President also promised to expand energy production.
  • Trump called on Congress to allocate funding for the creation of an advanced Golden Dome missile defense system in the United States.
  • Reaffirmed intentions to carry out the largest deportation operation in US history.
  • Trump also promised to “plant the American flag on Mars and beyond.”

Incident during Trump's speech

We will also add that some congressmen tried to “disrupt” Trump's speech in Congress at the very beginning of his speech. They were warned.

In addition, at the direction of House Speaker Mike Johnson, Democratic Congressman Al Green was ejected from the chamber for “disturbing the peace” because he loudly objected to Trump's initial statements from the podium.

US President Donald Trump has also reportedly warned federal workers that they will be fired if they resist his administration's policies, and that the reign of unelected bureaucrats is over.

Let us add that, according to American media, progressive Democrats could have disrupted Trump’s speech in Congress.
