The United States will not resume military aid to Ukraine until a rare earth metals agreement is signed.
As reported by RBC-Ukraine, this was stated by the US President's Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, during a speech at an event of the Council on Foreign Relations.
“My point is that until the minerals agreement is signed, there will be no progress. Period. We had the opportunity to do it when I was in Ukraine, they (the Ukrainians, – ed.) did not do it. They had the opportunity to do it last week (at the meeting in the White House, – ed.), they did not do it,” Kellogg said.
In response to the journalist's remark that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was publicly proposing to sign the agreement, Kellogg noted: “There is a difference between proposing something and doing it.”
Asked further whether signing a fossil fuel deal would be enough to resume U.S. aid, Kellogg said “that's up to the president of the United States,” adding that the current pause is just that: a “pause.”
Suspension of military aid from the United States
Let us recall that the US has suspended military aid supplies and intelligence exchange with Ukraine. CIA Director John Ratcliffe confirmed this information.
The United States has suspended military aid to Ukraine for review, the White House said. Future funding is under review.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, in turn, commented on the report about the restriction of intelligence sharing between the US and Ukraine.
He stressed that the UK, US, Europe and Ukraine should work together, without choosing between the US and Europe. He noted that the UK has always supported close cooperation with its allies and does not intend to change this policy.
