US President Donald Trump has made it clear he will not resume aid to Ukraine after the fossil fuel deal is signed. He also wants to see a change in President Volodymyr Zelensky's attitude toward the talks.
RBC-Ukraine reports this with reference to NBC News.
Trump has made it clear to aides in private conversations that the agreement would not be enough to resume aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine, according to an administration official and another U.S. official.
Officials said Trump wants the deal, which would give the U.S. a stake in Ukraine's mineral wealth, to be signed. But he also wants to see a change in Zelensky's attitude toward peace talks, including a willingness to make concessions, such as giving up territory to Russia.
The publication's sources note that Trump wants Zelensky to make a certain move towards elections in Ukraine and, possibly, resign.
The United States has no evidence that the pause in intelligence sharing had a direct impact on Russia's air strikes on Ukraine, a U.S. official and a Trump administration official said. They said the attacks were likely planned before the intelligence sharing and aid stopped.
US aid on hold
The United States recently officially confirmed that it had stopped providing aid to Ukraine. The United States also stopped exchanging intelligence with Ukraine.
NBC News previously reported that allies may stop sharing intelligence with the US because they fear the data will be transferred to Moscow. British media report that the West is discussing the creation of a new intelligence alliance without the US.
