Apple is preparing a major software update that will change the interface of the iPhone, iPad and Mac as the company strives to adapt the devices for a new generation of users.
RBC-Ukraine reports this with reference to Bloomberg.
The update, which is expected to arrive later this year, will dramatically change the look of the operating systems, Bloomberg sources said. The update will also make Apple's various software platforms more uniform, with updated styles for icons, menus, apps, windows, and system buttons.
The company is known to be working on making it easier for users to navigate and control the devices, the sources said, adding that the design is based to some extent on the Vision Pro software.
Apple is betting that a disruptive new interface can help spur demand as the company’s revenue slowed after a pandemic-era surge in tech spending, and growth has only gradually recovered. Sales of Apple’s iPhones, its biggest source of revenue, unexpectedly fell during the last holiday season.
The changes will be included in iOS 19 and iPadOS 19, codenamed “Luck,” and macOS 16, which is called “Cheer.”
“They go far beyond the new design and aesthetic changes. The software will be the most significant update to the Mac since the Big Sur operating system in 2020. For the iPhone, it will be the biggest update since iOS 7 in 2013,” the article says.
We previously reported that Apple is working on a version of AirPods with built-in cameras. While the technology likely won't make it into the AirPods Pro 3 that could launch this year, the company is already hard at work on it.
