A ceasefire in Ukraine could happen “in a few days.” The issue will be raised at a meeting with G7 diplomats in Canada.
RBC-Ukraine reports this with reference to The New York Times.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio hopes a cease-fire between Russia and Ukraine could happen within “days”, he says, if Russian leaders agree.
At the same time, Rubio said he plans to bring in diplomats from G7 allies to focus on ending the war at a meeting this week in Canada.
“This is what we would like the world to look like in a few days: neither side is shooting at each other – not with missiles, not with bullets, not with anything, not with artillery… The shooting stops, the fighting stops, and the conversations begin,” he said.
Ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia
Recall that earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about possible first steps to achieve peace. In particular, he proposed introducing a ceasefire in the air and on the water.
It is worth noting that on Tuesday, March 11, during a meeting in Saudi Arabia, the American side proposed introducing a ceasefire throughout the entire territory, and Ukraine agreed to this proposal.
Russia's response to the ceasefire is now expected. Earlier, the US Secretary of State said that the US would contact Russia on this issue as early as March 12.
Trump then announced that his delegation was traveling to Russia, where they would discuss a 30-day ceasefire with Ukraine.
In addition, Zelensky explained earlier today why Ukraine agreed to the idea of 30 days of silence.
