BYD is set to conquer European markets. According to sources, the Chinese automaker plans to build a third European plant in Germany.

RBC-Ukraine reports this with reference to Reuters.

BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li said the Chinese electric vehicle maker is considering building another plant, and this time it could be in Germany, the heart of the European auto industry.

According to sources at the company, Germany is likely the best option for BYD. Germany is home to Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and several other automakers, which could make it much easier to find auto parts contractors and skilled labor.

According to statistics, Chinese brands are gaining popularity in Europe at the beginning of 2025, despite the overall decline in new vehicle registrations. Of the more than 37,100 electric vehicles registered in January 2025, Chinese brands accounted for 3.7% of the market, compared to 2.4% in January 2024.

As the EU gradually imposes new tariffs on electric vehicle imports from China, BYD may be able to offset some of the costs through local production. Meanwhile, China has also advised domestic companies not to invest in countries that impose additional tariffs.

It is known that the BYD plant in Hungary will start operating in October of this year, the second plant in Turkey will open its gates in 2026, and the total production capacity of both plants is expected to be 500 thousand cars per year.
