Ukraine is actively working on improving its missile program. According to him, the Neptune cruise missiles have already proven their effectiveness on the battlefield, and their range can reach more than 1,000 km.

Roman Kostenko, Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, spoke about this in a comment to the RBC-Ukraine YouTube channel.

“This is good news. This is a good rocket, I saw it myself. It has great prospects,” Kostenko noted.

He emphasized that in addition to the “long Neptune” and “short Neptune”, there are other variations of this missile that are either already in use or will soon be used against the enemy.

Kostenko also recalled that the development of the Neptune is being carried out by the Luch Design Bureau under the leadership of chief designer Oleg Korostylev.

“This weapon is now produced in various variations – both anti-ship and land-based, which harm the enemy,” he added.

According to him, the main task now is to scale up production and make these missiles a factor in deterring Russian aggression.

What is known about the Long Neptune rocket

Let us recall that back in December 2023, it was reported that Ukraine was creating “long Neptune” missiles. Their development was secret, and at that time, work continued on upgrading the Buk and S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems.

It is worth noting that the characteristics of the “long Neptunes” are not exactly known. But in August 2023, it was reported that only a few dozen such rockets were produced.

The other day, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the Long Neptune missile had been tested and successfully used in combat.

Also in August 2024, during the events for Independence Day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine had used the latest drone missile called “Palyanytsia” for the first time. He emphasized that this weapon is the result of the work of Ukrainian designers.
