Mercedes-Benz is retiring the A-Class. The model will be removed from the lineup when the current generation reaches the end of its life cycle.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Carscoops.
This is a consequence of the simplification of the compact line. It will contain only four most marginal models: CLA, GLA, GLB and g-Class – a small analogue of Gelandewagen, for which a new platform will have to be developed.
The A-Class is popular in Europe, but outside of it, including the important markets of China and the United States, the hatchback sells worse. There, sedans and crossovers are of greater interest, so the entire A-Class family and the B-Class compact van will be cut.
Thus, the compact line will include the new CLA in saloon and shooting brake bodies, as well as the next generations of GLA and GLB. These two families will integrate the EQA and EQB electric vehicles.
The g-Class, or “Baby Gelika”, will stand apart. Unlike other compact Mercedes-Benzes, it will not be based on the MMA platform. It is known that the new SUV will have a “square” design, like the older SUV, and will look like its mini version. The new line of “entry” Mercedes-Benzes will probably be formed in the next few years.
