In just three weeks, on April 20, Ukrainians will celebrate Easter. The approach of the holiday will affect the cost of products that are traditionally placed in baskets for blessing in the church. However, other factors will also influence prices.

Easter basket 2025: how will the cost change
The closer it is to Easter, the higher the demand for products used to prepare the main treats. First of all, we are talking about meat, sausages, eggs, and dairy products.
The pre-holiday rush will contribute to higher prices, but one should also take into account the general situation on the food market with a tendency for prices to rise (due to inflation, rising energy prices, production costs, etc.).
As Maxim Gopka, an analyst at the Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business (UKAB), noted in a commentary to RBC-Ukraine, the Easter basket will become more expensive this year.
“It is too early to calculate the exact cost of the 2025 Easter basket, but we can definitely say that it will be more expensive than last year ,” he predicts.
The expert says in particular that the cost of Easter cakes (both homemade and purchased) will increase this year, since the main ingredients, including dairy products , are becoming more expensive.
“The main reason for the increase in prices for dairy products is the seasonal factor, which will slightly reduce its influence when the weather gets warmer. We have the same situation with eggs. At the same time, we should not expect a significant increase in prices in the meat products category,” said Maksim Gopka about price expectations for the holiday.
Regarding the cost of eggs, it is formed under the influence of seasonal factors and also depends on the prices of feed. As noted in the analytical report of the Ukrainian Agricultural Association, until May the price of eggs in Ukraine will fluctuate within 5-8 UAH from the current one. If the weather conditions are positive for stable production, the cost of the product may decrease by 25-30% from the current price.
What can you buy for the holiday now and what are the prices?
To avoid the pre-holiday rush, some Easter products can be purchased in advance. For example, meat for roasting can be frozen. Sausages and products for baking paskas (flour, sugar, butter) have a long shelf life, provided that temperature conditions are met.
Pork
On March 28, pork shoulder cost in supermarkets: “Silpo” – 159 UAH/kg; in Novus – 184 UAH/kg.
Pork neck is sold for 249 UAH/kg in Novus, 239 UAH/kg in Silpo and Varus.

Sausage
Dry-cured or smoked sausages are stored in airtight packaging in the refrigerator for several months. Therefore, such products can be purchased in advance.
Smoked sausage “Ukrainian” from “Dobrov” in the ATB chain costs 591.49 UAH/kg. Dry-cured sausage “Nostrano” brand “Alan” in “Silpo” will cost 119 UAH for 200 g. Dry-cured cervelat in Varus – 284.9 UAH for 330 g.

Flour
As UCAB analysts note in their March report, wheat flour has fallen in price by 16% over the past month, to an average of UAH 25.8/kg. The price change may be a decision by retail chains to offer discounts before Easter, since wheat (raw material) prices have not decreased over the past month.
At ATB, the price of flour of its own brand “Rozumny Vybir” is 23.9 UAH/kg. Flour “Khutorok” at “Silpo” is 26.89 UAH/kg, at Varus the price is 18.17 UAH/kg for products of the brand of the “Vygoda” chain.

Butter
To bake Easter cakes, you can buy butter in advance. It can be stored in the freezer for 3 months. In addition, prices for dairy products will not decrease in the near future.
According to the UCAB report, the price situation could change due to an increase in supply (milk yields), but this should be expected with the onset of warm weather at the end of April.
The prices for butter are now as follows: “Svoya Liniya” 82% in ATB – 99.7 UAH for 180 g; in “Silpo” “Galichina” butter 82.5% – 109 UAH, “Ferma” butter 82.5% – 99.9 UAH per pack.

Sugar
The Ukrainian Agricultural Council predicts that sugar prices may change next month due to a decrease in stocks, but the fluctuations will be minor.
Today, sugar can be bought for 32.9 UAH/kg at ATB; 34.29 UAH – in “Silpo”; 32.9 UAH/kg – in Varus; 34.99 UAH/kg – in the Novus network.

Let us recall that last year the cost of an Easter basket in Ukraine for a family of 4 was UAH 1,422. And in 2023, such a set cost UAH 1,208.
