A rating of cars that lose the least and the most in value over the years has been published. First of all, experts have found that on average, over this period, a car on the US market loses 45.6% of its original price.
RBC-Ukraine reports this with reference to iSeeCars.
Pickups (minus 40.4%) and hybrids (40.7%) are holding up the most steadily. The latter's good performance is probably due to the fact that there are many Toyota hybrids on the market. Crossovers are losing significantly more – 48.9% of their value over five years. Electric cars have set an anti-record, depreciating by 58.8% at once.
It is not surprising that the Jaguar I-Pace electric crossover topped the rating for the largest drop in residual price with a rate of 72.2%. Bronze also went to the Tesla Model S electric car (65.2%). But the BMW 7-Series executive sedan unexpectedly broke into second place (67.1%).
In the ranking of the most liquid cars, sports cars have the advantage. The first two lines among five-year-olds on the American market were won by two Porsche models, which lose no more than 22% of the initial price. The fourth and sixth places were taken by the Chevrolet Corvette (27.2%) and Camaro (28.0%), and the Ford Mustang (29.2%) took the eighth place. It can be stated that buying a sports car is a relatively good investment.
Based on the results of their research, iSeeCars analysts emphasized that the drop in residual value is the main expense of operating a car. For example, the difference between a used hybrid and an electric car in the case of sale can reach several tens of thousands of dollars in lost profits.
