The United States of America (USA) has imposed a 10% duty on Ukraine, but this is not critical. Kyiv has something to offer Washington.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Twitter account of the First Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Sviridenko.
“What do the new duties from the US mean for Ukraine? It's complicated, but not critical . A general duty of 10% will apply to us. There is no separate higher duty, like Moldova's 31% or the EU's 20%, for Ukraine,” Sviridenko said.
She added that in 2024, Ukraine exported $874 million to the United States, of which $363 million was cast iron and $112 million was pipes. At the same time, goods worth $3.4 billion were purchased in the United States.
Despite everything, Ukraine's duties on American goods remain quite low, for example, the rate on cars is 10%, and on coal and oil – 0%. In total, more than 600 different categories of Ukrainian goods are exported to the USA, including 65 types of products worth more than a million dollars. In this regard, Kiev has a chance to agree on other conditions as a reliable ally and partner, since both our countries benefit from fair duties .
“If everything remains as it is, then the American universal duty will hit mainly small producers . Therefore, we are already working to ensure that there are better conditions for Ukraine,” Sviridenko explained.
US Trade War
Yesterday, April 2, White House chief Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing import tariffs on many US trading partners. For some countries, the duties have become much higher: 34% for China and 20% for the European Union (EU).
In particular, the United States introduced a 25% tariff on all cars assembled in other countries of the world.
Meanwhile, China's Ministry of Commerce, commenting on the US decision, called for the tariffs to be lifted immediately and threatened “countermeasures.”
