Russian military announced the “capture” of the village of Basovka in the border area of Sumy Oblast.
The representative of the State Border Service of Ukraine Andrey Demchenko, in a comment to RBC-Ukraine, stated that the enemy is continuing its disinformation campaign to seize settlements in the Sumy region or break through the border.
According to him, the Russians do not stop the tactics of using small assault groups to cross the border with Ukraine. The main goal of such groups is to accumulate forces and expand the combat zone across the territory of Ukraine.
“This is also being recorded in the direction of the village of Novenkoye-Basovka. At the same time, these small assault groups are being destroyed as much as possible by units of the Defense Forces,” Demchenko said.
The situation in Sumy region
Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Ukrainian intelligence has recorded Russia's preparations for new offensives. According to him, the Russians may try to attack again in the Sumy, Kharkiv and Zaporizhia regions.
Later, the Chairman of the Council of Reserves of the Ground Forces of Ukraine Ivan Timochko in an interview with RBC-Ukraine shared an assessment of the forces and potential threats from the Russian Federation regarding a possible new offensive.
It is also interesting that the Office of the President of Ukraine also announced that Russia is preparing a new offensive. After all, this year the Russian army plans to increase its group by 150 thousand people. This is the equivalent of about 15 motorized rifle divisions.
