Ukrainian defense forces have recently advanced near Kupyansk. Meanwhile, advances by Russian occupiers have been recorded near Toretsk, Pokrovsk, and in the Kursk region.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to a report published on April 6 by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Russian troops have recently advanced into the Kursk region. Geolocation footage released on April 5 indicates that Putin's troops have advanced into northern Guevo (south of Sudzha).

The battles took place near Oleshnya in Kursk Oblast (southwest of Sudzha) and Basovka in Sumy Oblast. A Russian “war correspondent” reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were continuing to attack near Veselovka in Sumy Oblast.

“It is possible that the Russian military command has redeployed limited units of the 98th Airborne Division to the Kursk-Sumy Region border area,” says the ISW report, which cites stories about this from a Russian “war correspondent.”

In February and March, ISW experts observed reports that units of the 217th Airborne Regiment were operating in the direction of Chasovy Yar, and a Russian Airborne “war correspondent” claimed that units of the 217th Airborne Regiment were operating near Chasovy Yar in late March 2025.

On April 5, Ukrainian Defense Forces continued limited ground attacks in the northern Belgorod region.

A Russian blogger claimed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces allegedly launched an unsuccessful attack near Demidovka and Popovka.

East of Ukraine. Operation RF №1 – Kharkiv region

On April 5, Russian occupiers continued their offensive in the Kharkov direction, but made no progress. Russian troops attacked near Vovchansk on April 4 and 5.

Operation RF #2 – Luhansk region

Ukrainian troops have recently advanced in the Kupyansk direction. As geolocated footage published on April 4 shows, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have advanced south of Zapadnoye (north of Kupyansk).

Russian invaders attacked near the international border near Figolevka and Kamenka, near Golubovka, Kondrashevka, Malaya Shapkovka, and also near Petrovpavlovka on April 4 and 5.

The Russian “war correspondent” claimed that Putin's troops continue to advance on both sides of the Oskol River in the Kupyansk direction – probably referring to the area near Kamenka – and have established a land corridor from Valuyki in the Belgorod region to the right (western) bank of the river, ISW reports.

On April 5, Russian occupiers continued to advance in the direction of Borovaya, but were unable to advance. Russian troops attacked in the area of Novaya Kruglyakovka, Zagryzovo, near Nadezhda, Novosergievka, Novogorovka, Grekovka and Olgovka on April 4 and 5.

On April 5, the Russian invaders continued their offensive in the Liman direction, but made no progress.

On April 4 and 5, Russian troops attacked in the area of the village of Novoye, near Katerinovka, Novomikhaylovka, Zelenaya Dolina, in the area of Novolyubovka and Mirny.

The Russian “war correspondent” stated that Putin's troops are trying to connect the Nevskoye-Novolyubovka bridgehead (northeast of Liman) with the Makeyevka bridgehead in the north.

Operation RF #3 – Donetsk region

On April 5, Russian occupiers continued to advance in the Seversky direction, but did not advance. Russian troops attacked in the Belogorovka, Grigoryevka, and Verkhnekamenskoye areas on April 4 and 5.

On April 5, the spokesman for the Luhansk group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Lieutenant Colonel Dmitry Zaporozhets, stated that the Russian invaders are most actively using buggies and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) in the Seversky direction.

On April 5, Russian troops continued to advance in the direction of Chasovy Yar, but were unable to advance. Russian occupiers attacked near Chasovy Yar itself, near Kurdyumovka, and advanced on Stupochki and Predtechno on April 4 and 5.

Russian invaders have recently advanced in the Toretsk direction. As geolocation footage published on April 5 shows, Russian troops have advanced north of Druzhba (north of Toretsk).

Russian troops attacked near Toretsk itself, near Dachnoye, Druzhba, Deliyevka, Krymskoye, Valentinovka, Sukha Balka, Alexandropol, Leonidovka and Petrovka on April 4 and 5.

On April 5, Zaporozhets stated that the Russian invaders in the Toretsk direction continue their offensive with small assault groups and are actively using motorcycles to transport infantry to the center of Toretsk.

Russian occupiers have recently advanced in the Pokrovsk direction. Geolocation footage published on April 5 shows the Ukrainian Armed Forces striking Russian troops on the western outskirts of Solenoe (southwest of Pokrovsk), which may indicate that the Russians have occupied the town.

Additional geolocated footage released on April 4 indicates that Russian invaders have advanced into northern Shevchenko (southwest of Pokrovsk).

Russian bloggers claimed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces counterattacked near Shevchenko, Kotlino and Lysovka.

On April 5, Russian troops continued their offensive in the Kurakhovsky direction, but were unable to advance. On April 4 and 5, Russian occupiers attacked in the area of Andreyevka, Konstantinopol and Alekseyevka, in the area of Razliv and the settlement of Bagatir.

On April 5, the Russian invaders continued to advance in the direction of Velikaya Novosyolka, but did not advance. On April 4 and 5, Russian troops attacked near Razdolnoye, Fyodorovka and Burlatskoye, near Novosyolka and Novodarovka and in the direction of Novopol.

“Southern Axis”

On April 5, Russian occupiers continued to advance in the western part of the Zaporizhia region, but were unable to advance. Russian troops attacked in the direction of Malaya Tokmachka, in the area of Novoandreyevka, Stepnoye, Malye Shcherbaki and Kamenskoye on April 4 and 5.

Neither Ukrainian nor Russian ISW sources reported any ground actions in the Dnieper direction on April 5.

Situation at the front

As reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the evening report on April 5, 152 combat clashes have been recorded on the front since the beginning of the day.

The military command noted that the situation was most tense in the Pokrovsky, Limansky, Toretsky and Kursk directions.
