Artificial intelligence can be a powerful tool in bringing peace and justice to the aggressor country and holding it accountable.

RBC-Ukraine reports this with reference to an ICTV story.

It is noted that the corresponding conclusion can be made based on the results of the all-Ukrainian student essay competition on the topic: “The role of artificial intelligence in holding the Russian Federation accountable.”

“Artificial intelligence is something that is developing at the fastest rate today, and why not try to attract it so that it can also help us in the fight against the Russian invasion,” said Vadim Popko, the organizer of the competition, professor of the Department of Comparative and European Law of the Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Doctor of Law, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine.

Of the 130 works by students from more than 30 Ukrainian higher education institutions, it was planned to select the ten best, however, due to the large number of interesting ideas proposed, the competition jury selected 17 finalists.

Sofia Tretyak, who researched the prospects of using AI in judicial proceedings and took 3rd place, says that she chose this topic because this technology is already a reality of Ukrainian legal proceedings.

“There are interesting aspects of using AI in court proceedings and in Ukraine there is already a practice of using it in court decisions. Therefore, I believe that it is worth developing this topic in the future,” she convinces.

In turn, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak, who was also present at the event, noted that artificial intelligence can help in the process of establishing the exact amount of damage caused by Russia, as well as in the search for war criminals.

“Ukraine is currently compiling a registry of losses, which includes all objects damaged by Russian aggression. And here artificial intelligence can really help solve this problem. Artificial intelligence can help calculate all the losses inflicted on Ukraine down to the last penny, but convincing the whole world that we are right, convincing them to compensate for the losses and restore justice – this is still something only a human can do,” he said.

Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedoriv noted that in the coming years Ukraine will need highly qualified specialists in the field of artificial intelligence and advised students to continue to explore this topic.

“In five years, we have managed to rise from 102nd place in the world in the ranking of digital states to fifth place. I think that if we work together and implement artificial intelligence in all types of our activities, then we can be at least in the top three in the next two years,” Fedorov said.
