Russian “Shaheeds” drop delayed-explosion munitions: how to recognize them and what are the dangers
Ukrainian services recorded the use of new types of ammunition for the first time.
After another air attack by Russian kamikaze drones “Shahed” on Kyiv, Kharkiv and Sumy region, Ukrainian services have for the first time recorded the use of new types of ammunition. These are explosive devices with delayed detonation, which the enemy drops from drones to increase the destructive effect and complicate the work of rescuers, writes MigNews with reference to the source T.me/kievinfo_kyiv.
What is known about the new threat?
According to explosives engineers, the munitions have a characteristic shape – small cylindrical or rounded objects, similar to fragmentation grenades. Inside is an explosive that is triggered not immediately after impact, but after a certain period of time. The exact interval can vary – from several minutes to several hours.
Such devices pose an extreme danger, as they may appear to be ordinary metal objects or debris. The explosion may occur after rescue services or local residents have arrived at the scene.
How to recognize a delayed-explosion ammunition
Experts advise paying attention to:
- Unidentified metal objects on the ground after shelling
- Devices with wires, holes, or suspicious elements
- Any objects that look “out of place” after explosions or a drone crash
If you notice such an object, do not approach it , do not touch it, and immediately call emergency services at 101 or 102.

The enemy's goal is not only destruction, but also terror.
According to military analysts, the use of delayed detonation munitions is an element of psychological pressure. The occupiers are trying not only to inflict physical harm, but also to sow fear among the civilian population, making the process of eliminating the consequences of shelling as dangerous as possible.
Ukrainian sappers are already working to neutralize the new threat, but they emphasize that success also depends on the attentiveness of citizens . Timely reporting of a suspicious object can save lives.
