Ukraine to Change Power Standard: Voltage to Shift from 220 to 230 Volts

Starting July 1, 2025, Ukraine will officially adopt a new standard for voltage in power grids: the nominal value will shift from the traditional 220 volts to 230 volts. This decision, approved by the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission (NEURC), introduces a European approach to defining electricity quality parameters, reports the Baltimore Chronicle, citing the resolution.

According to the new regulations, the allowable voltage deviation will be ±10% of the nominal value, meaning the range will now fall between 207 and 253 volts. This change aligns Ukraine’s power system with the standards adopted by European Union countries and aims to harmonize the country’s technical infrastructure with EU requirements.

It is expected that voltage stabilization will reduce the risk of damage to household appliances sensitive to fluctuations and lower the need for additional protective devices such as voltage stabilizers. Furthermore, this will support improved energy efficiency, as electrical devices will operate in an optimal mode without overloads or power loss.
