OpenAI has announced the release of its next-generation language model — GPT-5, expected to launch in early August. This model promises to be a significant breakthrough in the development of artificial intelligence, combining long-term reasoning algorithms with multimodality. GPT-5 is designed to be a universal tool capable of performing tasks that previously required separate models, including image and audio processing, the CoT reasoning mechanism, and agent functions. The model will be able to simultaneously perform several tasks, such as web search, deep research, voice communication, and the use of external utilities like the Canvas editor. The intelligent system of GPT-5 will determine whether an immediate response is sufficient or if more time is needed for a detailed answer. Additionally, autonomous agents are planned to be launched, capable of automating online tasks — from booking tickets to ordering goods. The model will be available in three versions: GPT-5 (main), mini (medium), and nano (light). Each version will be optimized for different types of tasks, reports Baltimore Chronicle.

The key improvements in GPT-5 concern both the speed of operation and the increased context window. Sam Altman, the head of OpenAI, noted that the new model is very fast, and its intellectual capabilities are also impressive. Altman received “an ideal answer to a complex question,” highlighting the significant progress in AI development. GPT-5 is expected to be a major step forward in programming, an area where Anthropic’s models currently lead, but GPT-5 has already demonstrated superiority over Claude 4 Sonnet. It is also expected that GPT-5 will improve the ability to solve mathematical and scientific problems, a strength of the previous series of models.

The model will be available through an API and the ChatGPT interface. For users on basic plans, OpenAI will offer free access to the basic version of GPT-5, while Plus and Pro plan subscribers will have access to more powerful versions. Additionally, Microsoft will integrate GPT-5 into its products, with the new model being compatible with Windows Copilot.
