The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) is developing a draft law that will establish a register of banking clients involved in financial fraud. This was announced by NBU Deputy Governor Dmytro Oliynyk, reports the Baltimore Chronicle, citing Wall.
The register will include individuals who used their bank accounts for operations related to money laundering or other illegal financial activities. The goal of creating such a list is to limit access to banking services for individuals involved in financial crimes and to enhance control over financial flows.
According to Oliynyk, being included in the register will not mean a complete ban on using banking services; however, it will impose certain restrictions. In particular, such clients may be denied the opening of new accounts or conducting certain financial transactions.
The NBU also plans to collaborate with other state authorities and international organizations to effectively detect and prevent financial crimes. The creation of the register is part of the regulator’s broader strategy to increase transparency and security within Ukraine’s banking system.
Oliynyk emphasized that when forming the register, the protection of the rights of legitimate clients will be taken into account, and there will be mechanisms for reviewing and challenging decisions regarding inclusion in the register.
