A deadly shooting occurred in Lviv in broad daylight, killing former Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Andriy Parubiy. The incident took place in the Frankivskyi district of the city, reports the Baltimore Chronicle citing Suspilne.

According to the National Police, the call about gunfire was received around noon. The politician died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds before medics could arrive.

The head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, confirmed the killing and said law enforcement agencies are actively searching for the shooter. A citywide manhunt has been launched under the “Siren” protocol.

Journalist Vitaliy Glagola, referring to law enforcement sources, reported that Andriy Parubiy was shot eight times. Andriy Vasko, head of Lviv’s emergency medical service, told Ukrinform that the wounds were incompatible with life and biological death had already occurred by the time doctors arrived.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the killing and expressed condolences to the family. He stated that Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko and Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko have briefed him on the first known circumstances of the “horrific murder in Lviv.”

Mayor of Lviv Andriy Sadovyi also extended condolences to the relatives of the former speaker. He stressed the importance of swiftly finding the perpetrator and urged journalists to refrain from disturbing the family with additional requests.

Volunteer Nataliya Shelestak shared that at the moment of the attack, Andriy Parubiy was heading to the gym. He planned to work out and then return home.
