The current level of influenza in the Rivne region was the highest in the last 25 years – not counting the pandemic period, this epidemic season exceeded the previous one by 30%.
As Ukrinform reports, this was reported by the Rivne Regional State Administration with reference to the head of the regional center for disease control and prevention Roman Safonov.
The epidemic season exceeded the previous one by 30%, and sometimes the epidemiological threshold was twice as intense. In general, the current level of influenza disease in the Rivne region was the highest in the last 25 years, not counting the pandemic period,” Safonov said.
According to him, if before the threshold was exceeded, no more than a thousand people were sick per day, then in the second wave of this year – about 2 thousand. COVID-19 has significantly weakened its position in the current epidemic season, but this virus has claimed the most lives (in total, 25 deaths were registered in the region, 23 due to coronavirus).
Safonov added that this year was different and response to influenza and ARVI epidemics. In particular, local authorities introduced a number of preventive measures: a mask regime, an enhanced anti-epidemic regime in public institutions, restrictions on public events, as well as distance learning for schools.
«The pandemic has taught the world not to implement total restrictions, using new technical and organizational capabilities,” summed up the region’s chief sanitary doctor.
As Ukrinform reported, as of February 7, 2024, in the Rivne region, the ARVI incidence rate exceeded the epidemic threshold by 89.4%, in connection with this 60 educational institutions switched to distance learning.
