U.S.-based tech giant Nvidia has notified its Chinese clients about the limited supply of H20 chips — its most powerful AI processors currently permitted for export to China under U.S. trade restrictions, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to The Information.

Earlier this week, the company confirmed its intention to resume H20 chip sales in China, although export licenses must still be approved under updated U.S. policy.

The U.S. government’s export ban on H20 chips, introduced in April, forced Nvidia to cancel customer orders and withdraw from production capacity it had reserved with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).

Following the cancellations, TSMC reallocated its H20 production lines to serve other clients. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated during a press conference in Beijing that starting production of new H20 chips from scratch may take up to nine months.

In recent days, Huang expressed optimism about increasing the supply of H20 chips, suggesting that licenses for Chinese orders are being approved swiftly.

Additionally, Nvidia announced the development of a new graphics processor for Chinese clients, named the RTX Pro GPU, which will comply with current U.S. export regulations.
