U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order imposing an additional 25% tariff on imports from India, reports Baltimore Chronicle, citing the White House. According to the statement, these new tariffs will be applied to goods entering the U.S. market starting 21 days after the executive order is published, at 12:01 AM local time.
This order specifically targets imports from India that are linked to Russian oil. The measure is part of the U.S. strategy to exert economic pressure on countries that continue trade with Russia, especially in relation to Russian oil exports. India, being one of the largest importers of Russian oil, is now subject to these new sanctions.
Additionally, the order includes provisions for continuous monitoring of the situation and the possibility of revising the economic pressure measures depending on the development of international circumstances.
