Prices for cucumbers have crept up.
In Ukraine they note an increase in prices for greenhouse cucumbers. One of the reasons for the increase in product prices was a significant reduction in the supply of cucumbers on the market.
This was reported by analysts of the EastFruit project.
So, as of July 19, representatives of stationary greenhouse plants were shipping cucumbers to range from 25 to 50 UAH/kg ($0.60-1.21/kg), which is on average 40% more expensive than at the end of the last working week.
However, producers working with a year-round production cycle increased the cost of their products, focusing on stable demand from buyers.
Market participants emphasized that the main reason that provoked the rise in prices was a significant reduction in the supply of vegetables on the market.< /p>
“At the same time, a number of greenhouse complexes that have already completed the sale of cucumbers from the first turnover plan to start the second turnover no earlier than mid-August. The demand for greenhouse cucumbers remains quite high, which also provides additional support to prices,” the report says.
Analysts added that it does not help relieve the pressure on the market for greenhouse vegetables and open-ground products. Last week's supply decreased significantly due to persistent hot and dry weather throughout almost the entire territory of Ukraine.
Experts noted that now the price for greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine is already on average 2.5 times higher than in mid-July 2023.
According to key market players, it is unlikely that it will be possible to compensate for the supply shortage through imported products in the coming days, since supplies are very insignificant and unstable.
