High demand for greenhouse vegetables is observed both from wholesale companies and retail chains.
Due to increased demand, prices for greenhouse tomatoes continue to rise in Ukraine.
This is reported by analysts of the EastFruit project.
According to experts, current prices for tomatoes are the highest in Ukraine in at least the last seven years.
” Yes, as of August 23, greenhouse plants shipped greenhouse tomatoes at no less than 35-50 UAH/kg ($0.85-1.21/kg), which is on average 13% more expensive than at the end of last week,” the report states.
The main reason for such a sharp change is a sharp reduction in the supply of this product in Ukrainian farms.
“Due to the intense heat, many producers lost part of their harvest, since under abnormal weather conditions in July of this year, even protected soil did not guarantee the receipt of the entire planned harvest. In addition, Ukrainian farmers have lost a significant portion of their field tomato harvest, some of whom estimated the losses at 100%,” the report says.
High demand for greenhouse vegetables is observed both from wholesale companies and retail chains.
According to producers' forecasts, the upward price trend in this segment may continue next week. If this happens, the price of tomatoes in Ukraine will be the highest among all countries in the region.
Earlier it was reported that greenhouse plants raised prices for cucumbers.
