Water utilities are on the brink of survival.
In Ukraine, there is a need to increase tariffs for water supply and sanitation.
This was reported by the President of the Association, Deputy General Director of Kyivvodokanal for strategic policy Dmitry Novitsky.
According to him, water tariffs have not been revised since 2021. In 2023, an attempt was made to set new prices, but the government stopped this process.
He believes that water utilities are on the verge of survival, and the salaries of their employees, amounting to 13 thousand hryvnia, are extremely low.
“This situation threatens the effective functioning of enterprises in principle. And this is a huge problem,” he said.
In large cities, water tariffs are determined by the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission, while in smaller towns, the cost is regulated by local water utilities. This allows them to independently increase the price of water.
Earlier it was reported that in Ukraine, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, debts for utilities have increased by a third. The largest number of defaulters are in the Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions.
