The import of diamonds and diamond jewelry from Russia to the EU is now prohibited

Відсьогодні заборонений імпорт алмазів і прикрас із діамантами з Росії до ЄС

On January 1, a complete ban on direct imports from Russia to the European Union of non-industrial natural and synthetic diamonds, as well as diamond jewelry, came into force.

As Ukrinform reports, DW reports this.

In accordance with the previously adopted 12th package of EU sanctions against the Russian Federation, the European embargo on Russian diamonds processed in third countries will come into force later – from March 1 to September 1, 2024.

According to experts, Russia earns from 3.7 to 4.6 million euros annually from the diamond trade.

In addition, the 12th EU sanctions package provides for strengthening the price ceiling on Russian oil exports to third countries. European companies will be required to provide evidence that they adhere to the “price ceiling” for oil from the Russian Federation introduced by Western countries.

The list of goods whose export to Russia is subject to sanctions is also expanding. In particular, lithium batteries, thermostats and a number of categories of chemical products are prohibited.

As Ukrinform reported, on December 18, the EU adopted the 12th package of economic and individual sanctions against Russia.
