Embargo on the export of Ukrainian agricultural products will be indefinite – Polish Agricultural Minister

The Polish-Ukrainian border will not be open to Ukrainian goods, the embargo on their export to Poland will be indefinite. This was stated by the Minister of Agriculture of Poland, Czeslaw Sekierski, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Poland.

Export embargo

“The cordons will not open, the embargo on Ukrainian products is indefinite until it is lifted,” Sekierski said.

The Polish minister noted the importance of negotiations with the protesting farmers to develop the best solutions.

p>According to the minister, he supports the demands of the protesters, which, however, must be adapted to the current legislation in Poland, including EU legislation.

He also recalled that the Polish government is ready to satisfy all the demands of farmers. However, legal approval of all demands, according to Sekersky, will take time.

“There is no reason to believe that anything I promised will not be fulfilled,” he assured.

On January 4, Polish farmers resumed the blockade movement of trucks near the Medika-Shegini checkpoint. It will tentatively last until February 3.

What farmers demand

Polish farmers demand subsidies for the purchase of corn, maintaining the agricultural tax this year at the 2023 level and extending the possibility of obtaining loans to ensure liquidity.

The day before, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture R P Michal Kolodziejczak noted that the ministry agrees to fulfill all the demands of farmers. At the same time, the farmers said that they had not received the appropriate written assurances signed by the Prime Minister. This was the basis for restoring the border blockade.

On November 6, 2023, Polish carriers blocked the movement of trucks on the border with Ukraine at the checkpoints “Yagodin – Dorogusk”, “Krakovets – Korczowa”, “Rava-Ruska – Grebennoe” .

On November 23, Polish farmers joined them at the Shegini-Medika checkpoint, putting forward their demands. From December 24, during the Christmas holidays, they suspended the border blockade in this place.
