In the Czech Republic, from January 1, payments for housing for vulnerable people with temporary protection were increased. The increase in funding will concern more than 60 thousand Ukrainian refugees. This is provided for by amendments to the Lex Ukrajina law, which came into force at the beginning of the year, RBC-Ukraine reports with a link to proukrainu.blesk.cz.

How payments will change
From January 1, 2024, payments for housing for Ukrainians have been increased in the Czech Republic refugees from the category of vulnerable persons. It is expected that about 66 thousand people with temporary protection will receive increased housing compensation.
In particular, in registered housing, 6,000 kroons (244 euros) will be paid per person, in unregistered housing – 4,800 kroons (195 euros). Until now, payments have been half as much – 3,000 and 2,400 crowns, respectively. The maximum payment for a family of 5 or more people is 30,000 (1,222 euros) and 24,000 crowns (978 euros).
“Increasing spending on housing for the vulnerable group of refugees with temporary protection is key. Motivating foreigners to look for housing, depending on their income and situation, will contribute to their better integration in the Czech Republic,” said Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Marian Jurečka.

Currently, vulnerable people have the right to free housing from the state for an unlimited time, while other refugees – only 150 days. From September 1, 2024, all categories of people with temporary protection will be able to live in government-provided housing for up to 90 days. After this period expires, refugees will need to leave free housing and rent an apartment or room on their own.
From January 1, apply for free government Humanitarian housing will only be available at KACPU (Regional Center for Assistance to Ukraine) in the city of Ostrava. From there, refugees will be resettled in regions where there are available places. You cannot select the type of housing or locality.
