The platform may face a huge fine of several million euros – up to 6 percent of X's total income.
The Commission said that Musk allowed the purchase of account verification, indicating them with a blue “checkmark”, supposedly emphasizing the reliability of the source of information.
“Because anyone can sign up to receive such a verified status, this negatively affects users’ ability to make free and informed decisions on the authenticity of accounts and the content with which they interact,” regulators in Brussels said.
