In the US, consumer prices (CPI) increased by 2.4% year-on-year in March. The price growth slowed compared to February's 2.8%.
The median forecast among analysts was for inflation to slow to 2.6%, according to Trading Economics.
Excluding food and energy prices, inflation was 0.1% month-on-month. Analysts had expected a figure of 0.3%.
The annual core inflation index was 2.8% in March, while economists had forecast 3.0%.
