During his visit to Kyiv, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham stated that China must take a clear stance on Russia’s war against Ukraine. He emphasized that if Beijing continues to support Russia’s defense-industrial complex and fails to stand with Ukrainians, the United States may impose a 60% tariff on Chinese goods, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to The Hill.
Graham said China should be presented with a choice and made aware of the consequences of its actions. He stressed that Beijing must stop providing assistance to the Russian military, particularly through the supply of dual-use components. According to the senator, this step is crucial in halting the Kremlin’s aggression.
In his address in Kyiv, Lindsey Graham also reassured Ukrainian leadership of firm U.S. support. He referred to the $60 billion aid package recently approved by Congress, underscoring it as a “powerful message to Putin” about the resilience of Ukraine’s defense.
Beyond the economic pressure on China, the senator stated that the main priority for the United States is Ukraine’s victory. He also voiced support for the idea of transferring frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine’s reconstruction.
According to Graham, the U.S. is currently focused on utilizing all available diplomatic and economic tools to isolate Russia. China, with its significant influence on the course of the war through its backing of Russia, has become a central target of this global pressure.
