Swiss parliamentary committee supports $5.5 billion aid plan for Ukraine

A Swiss parliament committee voted yesterday, April 25, to allocate 5 billion Swiss francs ($5.5 billion) in aid to Ukraine as part of a broader package aimed at improving the defense capabilities of neutral Switzerland. This is reported by Reuters.

It is noted that the security committee of the upper house of parliament, supported by legislators from the center-left and center-right parties, approved a package to provide 10.1 billion francs of additional funds for the army along with the amount for Ukraine.

In a statement, the parliament noted that the multi-billion dollar package was intended as “an extraordinary contribution to the security of Switzerland and peace in Europe due to the war that Russia is waging against Ukraine.”

The Ukrainian part of the aid package provides support for the reconstruction and repair of daily infrastructure necessary for life in Ukraine, parliament reported.

The Ministry of Finance wrote that Switzerland plans to allocate 1 .5 billion francs ($1.75 billion) for the restoration of Ukraine in 2025-2028 as part of the international cooperation strategy.
