The Czech Republic has approved financial payments for Ukrainians returning home

Czech President Petr Pavel signed changes to the Lex Ukraine law, which regulates the status of Ukrainians who left for the Czech Republic since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion. The relevant information was published on the website of the President of the Czech Republic on Friday, December 22, reports European Pravda.

What is known

The key provision of the amendment provides for the extension of temporary protection of Ukrainian citizens in the Czech Republic until March 2025 in accordance with the decision of the Council of the European Union.

At the same time, the law also provides for the provision of financial support to refugees with temporary protection status upon their return to Ukraine. The amount of this support has yet to be established by the Czech government.

Refugees will be able to apply for such help only once and no later than three months before the end of the right to stay in the Czech Republic thanks to temporary protection, that is, until the end of 2024.

If these people later want to obtain a long-term visa in the Czech Republic, they will first have to return half of the amount which the Czech government provided them with to return home.

As of October, there were 359 thousand refugees from Ukraine in the Czech Republic, of which about 115 thousand legally found work.
