Ukrainian retailers estimated damage as a result of the war at $2.5 billion

The amount of direct damage in the retail trade sector during 2022-2023 as a result of the war on the territory of Ukraine is $2.42 billion. This is evidenced by data from an annual survey of Ukrainian retailers conducted by the Ukrainian Council of Shopping Centers.

It is noted that Despite the war, retail operators do not stop the development of their networks. If in 2022, due to occupation and destruction, the number of retail outlets decreased by 18%, then in 2023 there was an increase of 12%.

Retailers expect the same level of increase in outlets during 2024.

URTC emphasizes that the networks intend to develop both in the shopping center format and and in street retail format. Some focus specifically on the development of online sales.

Remember

The share of turnover due to online sales over the year increased from 14% to 15%.

Previously The Ministry of Finance wrote that Ukrainian retailers received UAH 50.7 billion in losses as a result of a full-scale war.

In terms of product groups, food chains suffered the most – 60% of losses in the industry. In second place are fashion retailers, whose losses amounted to 11% of the trade industry.

The three most affected trade sectors include sellers of electronics and household appliances – 7% of losses in the industry.
