President Vladimir Zelensky dismissed the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny and appointed Colonel General Alexander Syrsky in his place. This is stated in Zelensky's statement.

The President added that from today, February 8, a new management team will take over the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“I want the vision of war to be the only one of our soldiers in Robotin or Avdiivka, and in the General Staff, and at Headquarters. “I had dozens of conversations with commanders at different levels,” Zelensky added.

He stated that he spoke with brigadier generals Andrei Gnatov, Mikhail Drapaty, Igor Skibyuk and Colonels Pavel Palisa and Vadim Sukharevsky.

    Colonel General Alexander Syrsky was born on July 26, 1965 in the village of Novinki, Vladimir Region of the RSFSR. He was educated at the Academy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Defense University. He graduated from both educational institutions with honors. In the early 2000s, Syrsky commanded the 72nd mechanized division in Bila Tserkva. In 2013, he served as deputy head of the Main Command Center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and was responsible for cooperation with NATO. In 2014, Syrsky headed the ATO headquarters. In 2019, Syrsky became commander of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and since 2020 he has the rank of colonel general.
