Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy Daniil Getmantsev said that last year the dynamics of prices for goods and services from the consumer basket were different. Potatoes have risen in price the most, and the price has fallen the most — buckwheat.

Daniil Getmantsev associates the fall in prices for buckwheat with an increase in its supply. Since in 2023 the area under buckwheat increased by 15%, and the gross harvest — by 40%.

«However, what is good for the consumer is not always a plus for farmers, for whom growing buckwheat in the past the year was unprofitable. Probably, as often happens, this year we will see a reverse trend in buckwheat prices due to a decrease in the area under its cultivation», — he explained.

But the increase in potato prices was due to a reduction in supply, poor quality of planting material and harvest.

«The rise in potato prices continues in 2024. According to experts in the field, prices for it are now at historically record levels, determining the current feasibility of increasing its imports from neighboring EU countries», — Getmantsev noted.

Recall that it was previously reported why the amount for heating almost doubled: an expert’s explanation.
