Eating chocolate at least once a week is associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, according to research.
< p>«Our research shows that chocolate helps maintain healthy blood vessels in the heart», — says author Dr. Chayakrit Krittanavong of Baylor College of Medicine.
In the past, clinical studies have shown that chocolate is good for both blood pressure and the lining of blood vessels.
Researchers conducted a combined analysis of studies over the past 50 years that examined the link between chocolate consumption and clogged coronary arteries. The analysis included six studies with a total of more than 336 thousand participants.
Scientists found that compared with consuming chocolate less than once a week, consuming it more than once a week led to a reduction in the risk of coronary heart disease by 8%.
«Chocolate contains heart-healthy nutrients such as flavonoids, methylxanthines, polyphenols and stearic acid, which can reduce inflammation and increase the level of good cholesterol», — scientists note.
Recall that it was previously reported that the product cleanses and dilates blood vessels: doctors said that it should be consumed.
