The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) warns citizens about the increase in the number of counterfeit banknotes and provides tips on recognizing them.
The NBU reported this information, URA-Inform reports.
According to the NBU, in 2023, there were about 2.1 counterfeit banknotes per million of genuine banknotes, which is 0.1 less than in the previous year.
They noted that banknotes in denominations of 200 hryvnia are most often counterfeited; they account for more than 60% of all seized counterfeits. In second place are 500 hryvnia bills (about 25%), while 100 hryvnia bills account for less than 8%. Despite a slight decrease in the activity of counterfeiters recently, it is important to know the methods of recognizing genuine banknotes.
How to check the authenticity of a banknote:
By touch
Images on the front side should be in relief thanks to special printing.
Visually
Water marks should be visible against the light signs in the form of a portrait image, identical to the portrait on the front side, and a digital designation of the denomination.
Through element
The fragmentary image of the denomination on both sides of the banknote should become solid when viewed against the light.
Security tape
Completely immersed in the paper when viewed through a magnifying glass on it you can see images of the denomination, the inscription «GRN» and a trident.
Changing the angle of inclination
Images on the protective tape should change color when changing the angle of inclination.
Digital denomination designation
Should become visible: dark on a light background when viewed from the long side of the banknote and light on dark when viewed from the short side.
The NBU is constantly improving the security elements of banknotes, and up-to-date information about them can be found on the official website of the National Bank. If you receive a suspicious bill, it is better to refuse it and report it to the bank or law enforcement agencies. Following these recommendations will help protect yourself from scammers.
We recall that it was previously reported that the NBU introduced new 10 UAH into circulation: what the coin looks like (photo).
