Current Vice President USA Kamala Harris has already identified several candidates who could potentially become US Vice President if she wins the presidential election.
This information was reported by Bloomberg, URA-Inform reports.
These are three elected officials who enjoy national popularity. Harris is reportedly considering a wide range of candidates for the Democratic vice presidential nomination. However, the “short list” of candidates includes Arizona Senator Mark Kelly and Pennsylvania and Minnesota Governors Josh Shapiro and Tim Walz.
These male politicians with centrist leanings could help Harris attract the attention of not only businesses and party donors, but also voters in so-called “swing states.” They are known among voters for their attacks on Trump, the publication notes.
Harris' campaign says she has already directed her team to begin the vetting process for potential candidates. Harris is expected to make a selection by Aug. 7.
Mark Edward Kelly is the 408th astronaut in the world, the 256th U.S. astronaut (his twin brother, Scott Kelly, pictured below, is also a member of the astronaut corps), and has served as a U.S. senator from Arizona since December 2020.
As a military officer, Kelly participated in Operation Desert Storm, completing 39 combat missions. He flew into space as a pilot and commander of the shuttles Endeavour, Atlantis, and Discovery (with a total of 25 days in space).
Attorney Joshua David Shapiro is the 48th Governor of Pennsylvania (since 2023). He previously served as the 50th Attorney General of Pennsylvania.
Shapiro grew up in Montgomery County. In 2011, Shapiro was elected chairman of the Montgomery Board of Commissioners, marking the first time Republicans lost control of the county.
American politician Timothy James Walz began his career as an educator. He currently serves as the 41st Governor of Minnesota (since 2019). Walz was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 2007 to 2019.
