Switzerland adapted its state border with Italy.
This information is reported by Swissinfo, which cites URA-Inform.
The reason for this was the melting of glaciers as a result of climate change. The Swissinfo publication writes that a large Part of the Swiss-Italian border is defined by glaciers and snow fields. As the glaciers melt, these natural elements change and redefine the national borders of the countries. The border has been changed in the area of Monte Rosa, Cabane Glacier and Gobba di Rollin.
Also It is noted that in May 2023, a joint Italian-Swiss commission agreed on a project that respects the interests of both parties. In addition, Switzerland changed the border line with France. In the canton of Geneva, the laying of tracks for a new cross-border tram line has led to minor changes on the border between the communes of Perly-Certoux and Bardonnex.
The publication notes that Switzerland and France will exchange equivalent areas of territory. Two other changes to the Franco-Swiss border are related to the work on the Germans River and the work on the embankment on the Foron River.
