In your first major statement after taking office as Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico made a statement that could have an impact on the geopolitical situation in Europe.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to Politico.
At a press conference dedicated to the new tax package, he stressed that he is ready to restore relations with Russia if the war in Ukraine ends during his term in office, from 2023 to 2027.
«If the war ends during the mandate of this government, I will do everything possible to restore economic and normal relations with Russia ,» — Fico said.
This statement was made against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, where Western countries continue to provide political and military support to Kyiv.
This comment attracted attention not only national level, but also in a broader European context. Fico, known for his previous pro-Russian views, is thus once again emphasizing the need to establish economic ties with Moscow.
However, in conditions when most European countries support sanctions against Russia, Slovakia may become one of the possible vectors for dialogue with the Kremlin.
At the same time, Ukraine already intends to introduce special summonses with a QR code to improve the mobilization process.
