Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to take a tough stance on the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. According to analysts, he is not prepared to compromise on territorial settlement, the peacekeeping mission, or Ukraine's neutral status.
This was reported by URA-Inform, citing Bloomberg.
Maximalist Tactics and Obstacles to Negotiation
As Bloomberg notes, citing Western intelligence officials, the Russian leader is deliberately making extremely high demands before possible peace talks. He understands that such conditions are unacceptable not only for Kyiv, but also for Ukraine's European allies. This indicates his readiness to continue military action if his demands are not met.
“Frankly, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for me to deal with Ukraine,” admitted US President Donald Trump, commenting on the situation.
However, his hopes for a possible compromise between the parties clash with Putin's position, which shows no desire for a real peaceful settlement.
Negotiations in Saudi Arabia and the Role of the United States
Against this backdrop, negotiations between Ukrainian and American delegations are taking place in Saudi Arabia. President Trump has previously stated that he expects a positive outcome from these meetings. However, statements by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio about possible concessions to Ukraine on the issue of territories occupied since 2014 are causing concern.
Despite this, the Ukrainian side remains firm in its desire to liberate all captured lands. Therefore, the question of real prospects for a peaceful settlement remains open.
