Ukrposhta CEO Igor Smelyansky said that previously, in order to protect its employees, the company resorted to a rather unusual practice – purchasing chicken feet.

This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to Igor Smelyansky.

“We bought chicken legs. These were our means of safety. The idea was this: a postman is walking by – a dog runs out at her. She has to take a chicken leg out of her bag and throw it to the side to distract the animal. It really worked,” shared Smelyansky.

In the commentary, he also recalled a humorous dialogue with a McDonald's representative:

“I asked: 'You have chicken burgers, right?' – 'Yes.' – 'And where are the legs? We have all the legs,'” the head of Ukrposhta said.

According to him, this method was considered an environmentally friendly alternative to the usual means of self-defense, such as pepper spray. Smelyansky also suggested that perhaps someone simply owned their own poultry farm – and this also played a role.

However, as the company's director noted, chicken feet are no longer purchased – they have been replaced by more modern and effective means of protecting employees in the event of an animal attack.

This curious fact once again confirms that non-standard solutions sometimes become an unexpected but effective way of taking care of people’s safety.

The KMIS survey also showed where Ukrainians are most often asked to pay bribes.
