The Ukrainian cyber police told citizens how to protect themselves from computer viruses and not become victims of hackers.
This information was reported by the cyber police press service, URA-Inform reports.
The press service of the law enforcement agency noted that when committing crimes, hackers and Internet scammers often use malicious software, or, more simply put, — computer viruses.
The most common types of malicious software include:
Styler— a program designed to steal confidential information, namely logins and passwords, bank card data, and the like. They are often distributed by sending emails or messages in instant messengers.
Ratnik — a virus that allows you to remotely control a computer or system.
Clipper— a malicious program that is capable of replacing the addresses of cryptocurrency wallets in the clipboard with the addresses of an attacker. The victim copies someone's address, and when pasted, receives the attacker's address. To avoid falling into this trap, verify addresses before inserting them into your wallet and use reliable cryptocurrency software.
Miner— a virus that is used to mine cryptocurrency. For example, such as Bitcoin or Ethereum. As malware, it infiltrates the victim's computer or other device and mines cryptocurrency, sending it to the attackers. At the same time, the infected equipment begins to work significantly worse and wears out faster, because the miner consumes a lot of resources.
Sniffer— The virus is designed to intercept and analyze incoming and outgoing network traffic. Including logins and passwords for accounts from a device connected to the Internet. Hackers often install sniffers in areas where unsecured Wi-Fi connections are distributed. Examples of such places: cafes, hotels, train stations and the like.
Encryption virus— This is software that encrypts files on a user's computer, making them unusable, and demands a ransom in exchange for the decryption key. They are most often distributed via email, through websites with malicious content, or through vulnerabilities in the operating system.
How to protect yourself from viruses: the cyber police recommends following these rules:
— do not open suspicious links and files;
— do not download unknown programs;
— block the execution of macros in office programs;
— pay attention to the extension — text documents and tables should not contain «exe» next to the file name;
— do not save passwords in the browser or other programs;
— use two-factor authentication where possible;
— use an antivirus and update programs on time;
— use a firewall;
— avoid opening unknown ports on routers;
— use only proven and secure Wi-Fi networks;
— encrypt important information during transmission;
— scan your local network for vulnerabilities;
— do not open suspicious emails, links or files;
