UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres during a Security Council meeting dedicated to the second anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion to Ukraine stated that Russia, with its military aggression against Ukraine, directly violated the UN Charter and international law.

This information was reported by CNN, reports URA-Inform.

«Two years and ten years have passed since Russia attempted to illegally annex the Ukrainian Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. The war in Ukraine remains an open wound in the heart of Europe,” the Secretary General said.

At the same time, Guterres noted that “the time has come for peace – a just world based on the Charter UN, international law and General Assembly resolutions.

The UN Secretary General also focused on the importance of bringing to justice all those responsible for committing war crimes, in particular torture inflicted on civilians and prisoners, and sexual violence.
