The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine took part in a special debate on the anniversary of the Russian invasion.
Foreign Ministry Dmitry Kuleba said that the upcoming reform of the UN Security Council should to correct a historical mistake, as a result of which Russia illegally took a place among permanent members and received the right of veto.
As reported by Ukrinform, the minister spoke during a special debate dedicated to the second anniversary of the Russian invasion. He noted that Russian impunity directly follows from its presence in the Security Council meeting room in a place belonging to the Soviet Union, a country that no longer exists.
“Permanent membership was never legally transferred to Russia,” Kuleba recalled .
According to the diplomat, “such petty fraud ultimately led to a global catastrophe.” The minister expressed hope that the upcoming UN reform will correct this mistake – that is, it will deprive Russia of the opportunity to influence the decisions of the Security Council.
- Before participating in the debate, Dmitry Kuleba published an appeal from 50 countries, which contained a demand that Russia comply with the decision of the International Court of Justice on an immediate end to the war.
